Nov. 5, 2010
Ali Abbaspour, the head of the Educational and Research Committee of the Iranian parliament said regarding the disbanding of the Iran Medical Science University, “In the system of the Islamic Republic, we had never witnessed the disbanding of a university. The Iran Medical Science University is a good university in our country which is considered among the top ten medical science universities in Iran and according to figures it has more than 800 Science Committee members and close to 10,000 personnel. This university also has various research centers. Currently in various areas in the country, there are regions where the private sector is willing to pay any price for so that it could establish private medical science universities according to the standards of the Ministry of Health and Hygiene, but there are met with the opposition of the Health and Hygiene Ministry… The issue is that we chanted that all forces should leave Tehran and then we obligated 40 percent of Tehran’s personnel to leave, but in the end of August, this was not carried out and we were unable to do this. Now the Humans Office of the President wants to carry this out in any way possible”.

Nov. 6, 2010
The Tehran Emrouz state run daily wrote in its editorial titled ‘This Time the Iran Medical Science University’: “Imagine that you are a professor, student or employee of the Medical Science University and you wake up in the morning and go to work. You find out on the way there from the press that your university and place of work has been disbanded! And that the Iran Medical Science University exists no more in the country’s educational and health system. The words above are not fictional but are actually reality”.
“It would be better that the parliament, as an institution that is ‘above all affairs’ be informed of this issue from before so that at least the parliamentary Educational and Research Commission could support this plan. It is important to note that these kinds of decisions have been taken before in the government such as the disbanding of the Management and Planning Organization and the Currency and Credit Council for the Transfer of Employees from Tehran and the appointment of special presidential representatives in various areas of the world which had many consequences in those times and the bureaucratic system has still not been briefed on this issue.
