News on Iran’s economy

Oil sanctions
Tehran, June 7, 2010
Regime’s oil and gas industry is the main target of sanctions.
By endorsement of 1929 resolution of Security Council and unilateral sanctions by US, Europe and Australia economic pressure on regime is increasing more than ever.
The first effect of these sanctions is pressure on regime’s oil and gas industry.
Currently 8 countries namely China, India, South Korea, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Turkey are the main buyers of regime’s oil.
These countries buy 1,700,000 barrels of oil per day from regime but this is decreasing.
Until recently Iran was the third provider of China’s oil but it has fallen down to the 8 level.
The latest news show that China’s import of oil from Iran has reduced up to 74% during the last month.
European countries that buy oil from Iran are gradually changing their counterparts and they might cut this purchase completely for a short interval.
Along with Europe, Japan and South Korea will not hesitate in cutting their deals with the regime.
In fear of sanctions India has not only reduced its import of oil from Iran but also has stopped exporting gasoline to it.
In such a condition gradual reduction in capacity for production of oil will have serious consequences for the regime.
Lack of international investment in oil industry which is the direct result of international sanctions has led to increase in regime’s capacity for production of oil.

Million tomans spent for governmental ceremony
Tehran, June 28, 2010
By the order of IRGC, Ministry of Education has spent millions tomans to paint on school for a ceremony called ‘the congress of martyrs of east of Tehran’. Two adjacent girls- schools have been used for this ceremony. The schools’ yards are covered with chairs and millions of tomans have been spent for the decoration. Pictures of hundreds of those who were killed in Iran-Iraq war as well as pictures of heads of IRGC and Bassij are painted on the walls costing millions of tomans..
This region is from deprived regions of east of Tehran but is embeds the highest number of governmental schools and educational centers. Most of the building of these schools and centers need maintenance; they even lack enough classes, blackboards, chalk and benches but the budget that was supposed to be used to provide this shortage and repair the buildings was used for this ceremony.
By using this budget for such a ceremony regime wants to show that the ideology of martyrdom in compliance with Vali-e-Faghih is deep in Iran’s schools in reaction to protests that have risen from the schools and other educational organs of the country for toppling the clerical dictatorship.
