A Brief by Iran Students Committee

Advancement of Iranians Uprising

Though the clerical regime has suppressed full force to prevent any protest gathering at the anniversary of the nationwide uprising but Iran has witnessed protests and demonstrations especially by the students.
On June 12 students of Tehran University gathered in protest against the regime chanting ‘death to dictator’ and ‘a student will die but will not yield to oppression’.
Students of Sharif Industrial University chanted in their protest the same day ‘death to dictator’. Addressing Ahmadinejad they chanted ‘liar, liar’.

Families and mothers of the Uprising gathered in Behesht-e-Zahra Cemetery despite drastic security atmosphere to praise those who gave their lives for freedom of Iran. Some gathered by Kianoosh Asa’s grave in Kermanshah counting as nothing all the military and security measures of the regime.

On June 10, one day after the approval of sanction resolution in Security Council against regime and after Mr. Obama took position against the regime for the first time calling it an oppressing state, state supporter of terrorism, violator of human rights and a threat for justice for the whole globe Mosavi and Karrobi retreated from their call for demonstration on June 12.

Mr. Obama’s position clearly paved the way for Mosavi to stand firm. Mr. Obama said that Saturday (June 12) was the anniversary of the day when Iran’s election attracted the attention of the whole world, an event that must be remembered as how Iranians participated in it with praiseworthy feelings. But it must be remembered how Iran’s government brutally killed and suppressed the innocent and decent people including a young woman that died in the street.

This was the time when Iranian’s uprising had provoked international atmosphere in favor of it and it was the best time for Mosavi and Karobi to come into the scene.
But instead in a common statement they announced: “for preserving the lives and belongings of people the march on June 12 will not be held”!
By this they opened the way for Khamenei to suppress; closing their eyes on the right of speech, gathering and demonstration. ‘Preserving people’s lives and belongings’ was the worst excuse for preserving the life and wealth of Iranian regime, Khamenei and his suppressive forces.

Why did Mosavi and Karobi retreat and turned their back to people and participants in the uprising? Is such an issue accidental? No and never.

What is the importance of Security Council’s resolution?
The clerical regime has said from before that achieving nuclear weapon is the guarantee of its survival.
Since the day after Khomeini’s death in 1990 Rafsanjani said that this is the strategic tool for regime’s survival.
Regime reached to this conclusion that achieving nuclear weapon is its only way of survival.
Far from the nuclear issue this resolution blocks the appeasement policy conducted so far by US and European countries; from negotiations for finding moderates within the regime, to positive dialogues to criticizing dialogues. They are all done with.

By unbelievable suppression of this regime for 30 years, the price that was paid by people for 30 years and by their continuous uprisings the western countries specifically US reached this conclusion that there is no more room for any appeasement.

17 months after Mr. Obama took office and announced that his policy towards this regime was negotiation, after 27 months from the last resolution of sanctions on March 4, 2008 now this regime is faced with a new resolution of sanctions which targets regime’s organs including IRGC.  This resolution is coup de grace for the appeasement policy and compromising with it.

Why is this resolution a coup de grace for appeasement policy towards regime?
This resolution represents the red line of international society in regard with regime’s achievement of nuclear weapon.
About three months ago regime didn’t accept to send 1200 kg of its 3.5% enriched uranium to France; this was US condition for the continuation of negotiations with it. Then to prevent the approval of 1929 resolution regime was ready to send the same amount to Turkey but this time the uprising of Iranian nation had changed the situation. Regime had become shaky and weak.
As soon as the world comprehended that, the resolution was approved.
US and Europe counted regime’s treaty with Brazil and Turkey as nothing. Vienna Group; Russia, US and France too ruled out this treaty.
Thus it must be emphasized that this resolution is the coup de grace of maximum appeasement that US wanted to have towards the regime.

Can regime return to its former situation in a year ago?
If we close our eyes on this resolution and its aftermaths which are the results of Iran’s Uprising it would mean that the condition in Iran can go back to what it was before the Uprising. But the reality is that Khamenei’s talisman is broken and after people’s confrontation with the regime during the Uprising the regime is not capable of returning its condition back to what it was before the uprising.

Though with absolute suppression and enormous executions this regime has apparently been able to hold back the uprising but the uprising is the fire beneath the ashes.

What happened after the resolution? What could regime do? Were all these related to Mosavi’s withdrawal?
The clerical regime had two solutions.
First: to retreat in its atomic projects this would mean passing over the tool for its long term survival.
Second: to upgrade suppression and export of terrorism; a solution that regime has prefered.
Mosavi and Karobi discerned that Khamenei has chosen the second solution and they too would be the subject of arrest and they might be killed. Thus in spite of the fact that society especially youths were ready to confront a regime that was trapped in a dead-end and having in mind that they could use the positive international atmosphere especially in regard with US their first reaction was to cancel the march and the demonstration.

This wouldn’t stop the Uprising. Repression, suppression, cruelty and plundering is nothing new in this regime what is new is the global unity believing now that this regime is unstable and fragile.
Mosavi’s and Karobi’s role in such an international condition is just holding back the movement and people who are seeking freedom and democracy.
If the uprising that started from a year ago had a capable national leadership who would not compromise and surrender to Velayat-e-Faghieh it would have been in a different situation now.

On the other hand our people showed that they will not be stuck behind Mosavi and Karobi and they showed that the Uprising is alive and continues.
It is the fire under the ashes!
As our people had chanted in their uprisings ‘we haven’t been killed to compromise and to worship the murderer leader’.

Yes the opposition in Iran is alive. It is the fire under the ashes...
